Dr. Yamada earned his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and a Graduate Certificate degree in Wildlife Management from Oregon State University. Prior to obtaining his DVM degree, he worked at the Honolulu Zoo as a zookeeper in the reptile and children’s zoo sections. Dr. Yamada joined the team here in June of 2023, but his love of animals began much earlier than that. When he was a child, he adopted two guinea pigs named Piotr and Char from the local humane society—and loved them so much that he was inspired to volunteer at the shelter as soon as he was old enough so that he could help all the animals find loving forever homes! Dr. Yamada’s current critter family includes cats Penelope and Cat Stevens, rats Guanciale and Linguine, and a tarantula. In his spare time, he enjoys watching tv, movies, and sports, as well as playing basketball and other outdoor activities.
