Regenerative stem cell therapy and Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) are the latest treatments to be shown effective for helping the body to restore, repair, and regenerate damaged tissue in pets.
In veterinary medicine, this therapy is primarily used to treat arthritic animals, and for those with tendon and ligament injuries. Recent studies report that more than 80% of dogs with arthritis who are treated with regenerative stem cell therapy show much improvement.
Stem Cell Therapy
This advanced treatment utilizes stem cells derived from the fat of the patient getting the therapy. Fat is harvested and sent to VetStem. In 48 hours, we have the concentrated cells to help repair damaged tissue. While not a cure-all, it’s great for older pets, especially ones where surgery may not be an option due to multiple joints involved or other health issues. Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)
Less aggressive and expensive than stem cell therapy. PRP is performed as an outpatient procedure. The sample is collected the same day, processed and re-injected into the affected joint(s). This is great for both chronic arthritis and acute injuries; if a ligament is torn, however, surgery may be the only option. Please check out the links below for more great information about PRP.
