Does Your Dog Have CLASS?

Does Your Dog Have C.L.A.S.S.?

Our new 3-level program that complements the Association of Pet Dog Trainers C.L.A.S.S. (Canine Life and Social Skills) program is here and we’re ready for you to start now!. APDT C.L.A.S.S is an educational program that promotes training focused on the use of positive reinforcement and  strengthens relationships between humans and their canine companions. C.L.A.S.S. is a three-level evaluation for dog owners to demonstrate the real-life skills of their dogs, as well as a knowledge assessment of the owners’ understanding of basic dog handling and care. You’ll be working with people and dogs of different skill levels on the activities of most importance to them. You won’t have to waste time working on the skills you already have down pat, and can concentrate on the areas you where need the most help! Best of all, we operate on a drop-in basis, which means you are only charged for the sessions you attend, and never charged for the ones you have to miss. This flexible scheduling scheme makes it easy for you to get started, stay interested and help your dog be all he can be!

The Hot Dog Fetch Challenge!
OMG, the HDF (Hot Dog Fetch) Challenge is back by popular demand! What is this incredibly interesting concept, you might ask? Here’s how it works. We ask you to put your dog in a sit-stay at your side. One of our team members will hurl a hot dog out in front of you at least 6 feet. Now this is a completely virgin, unadulterated, non-modified, 100% all-beef weiner, warmed slightly to just above room temperature so as to maximize its most aromatic qualities. Once the frank has landed, you cue your dog to fetch the frank, and return it to your hand. If the meaty treat comes back in one piece, without scars or tooth marks of any kind, you and your dog will win a 100% free scholarship to attend any of our group classes for one whole year! That’s a total year of free training, worth potentially a ton of money, and a ton of fun!

Now many of you are out there shaking your heads and saying “This will never work. Who can train a dog to fetch a frank without eating it?” Our past winners include retrievers, terriers and mixed breed dogs of all sizes! Best of all, if you are currently attending classes, we frequently dispense hints about the best ways to achieve your goal.

You must be a current or past client to participate. You can try as many times as you wish, but only one scholarship per dog, please!

What’s With This Weather?

I’m sure everyone’s noticed our unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures climbing into the high 80’s and low 90’s. Craziness for January and February! So with that in mind, please remember that leaving your  dog in  your car, even for a few minutes, and even with the windows rolled down a bit, can be putting your dog in real jeopardy. Dogs are not able to perspire or ventilate as well as humans, so can quickly succumb to heat sickness and heat stroke. If you have errands to do, please leave your pooch at home!

Here’s a 5-minute video, where a veterinarian demonstrates what happens when you leave your dog in the car on a not-so-hot day. A real eye-opener!
